Statistics is a mathematical science treating the collection, analysis, interpretation or explanation, and presentation of data. It interacts heavily with both the mathematical theory of probability and the philosophical problem of inductive inference. Problems of statistical inference are modeled as mathematics problems, but just which mathematics problem is the right model is often essentially a philosophical problem.
